Six intrepid walkers, including the Vicar of Stratford, Martin Gorick, will be setting out to conquer the Shakespeare Way and raise much needed funds for three local charities.

“We are a group of Dads who have got to know each other in the playground at Broad Street School. The 146 mile trek will certainly be a challenge to all of us whose normal place of meeting is in one of Stratford’s many pubs! We are training hard to ensure we can do the equivalent of five marathons in seven days as we walk from Shakespeare’s Globe in London to Shakespeare’s Church in Stratford upon Avon via Marlow and Oxford.”

The group of daring dads, consisting of a verger, a civil servant, a delivery driver, a headteacher, and a city actuary, as well as the Vicar, are doing the walk from 20th to 27th October 2007.  They are raising money for The Friends of Shakespeare’s Church, in a bid to complete the works on the tower and have the scaffolding down by Christmas; the Shakespeare Hospice; and the Breast Cancer Campaign.

“We are a varied group but each of these charities is close to our hearts”, says Martin.  “We hope that people will generously support one or all of them and make our efforts really worthwhile.”

You can give online to the Friends of Shakespeare’s Church on this site – please go to the Donations page.  Please put the words Will Power Walkers as the first line of your address and then we can keep track of our donors.

If you wish to donate to the other charities being supported by this walk their websites are www.justgiving.com/willpowerhospice for the Shakespeare Hospice and www.justgiving.com/willpowerbreastcancer for the Breast Cancer Campaign.
