eBay Sales
for raising funds
for the Friends

As mentioned in the newsletter, here are our further thoughts on this brilliant new way of fundraising for the Friends and how you can become involved.

Please ring 01789 290128 if you could give a little help or if you have any queries about our eBay sale.

1) Please let us know if you have an item or items of value, which you would be willing to donate to the Friends on the understanding that we would sell them, if we can, for profit.

2) WE CANNOT RECEIVE ANY ITEMS HERE but initially, we would just like to have your suggestions of items you could offer to us for sale. Almost anything can be sold on eBay: books, paintings, postcard collections, memorabilia of all kinds, jewellery, musical instruments, china, porcelain.

3) We hope initially to select, say, half a dozen items for our first sale. We will then ask the donors, with our help, to fill in a form giving us as much detail as possible about the item, and we will also come and photograph it.

4) A description of the item, together with the photo, is then placed on the internet auction site and is open for bidding for seven days. At the end of that time, it is either sold to the highest bidder or removed from the auction list if it fails to reach its reserve price.

5) PLEASE DO NOT SEND US ANYTHING. Items for sale MUST remain with the Donor until after they are sold.

6) Secure and guaranteed payment is then made by the purchaser. This process does not involve the Donor in any way. Then, if the item is small enough to be posted, it can then be brought to the Friends‚ office and dispatched. If it is bulky, we will ensure that arrangements are made with the purchaser for appropriate carriage.

7) The Friends will have made a profit, with your help.

8) FOR THIS TO BE A SUCCESS, AND NOT JUST A FLASH IN THE PAN, WE SHALL NEED A FEW VOLUNTEERS. FOR EXAMPLE, DO YOU HAVE A DIGITAL CAMERA AND WOULD YOU BE PREPARED TO GO OUT WITH IT FOR AN HOUR OR TWO A WEEK, PHOTOGRAPHING THE ITEMS THAT HAVE BEEN DECIDED UPON FOR THAT WEEK'S SALE? OR MIGHT YOU BE ABLE TO SPEND AN HOUR A WEEK IN THE OFFICE PACKING UP ITEMS FOR POSTING AND KEEPING CONTROL OF THE PAPERWORK?
