Estimated cost of repairs: to be announced

In 1331 John, Bishop of Winchester, founded a chantry for five priests in the Thomas Becket Chapel situated in the south aisle. A 'good stone house' was built close by the Church to accommodate this college of Priests. In 1451 Henry V confirmed the privileges of the College and the Church became styled Collegiate. Within the forty years 1480-1520 the college was responsible for the complete rebuilding of a much larger chancel.

The Chancel parapet, south side, is in poor condition with badly weathered stone work. The pointing is seriously eroded to the point that some of the stones are loose.
These loose parapet stones represent a safety hazard and will have be made secure immediately.

Done

The stonework along the whole length of the parapet is eroding and requires to be rebuilt in a similar fashion to the east end of the Chancel. This work needs to be carried out in the next 18 months.

Done

The stonework to the Chancel door, south side is badly weathered and should be repaired in the near future.
